Strengthening Academic Dialogue in the Mediterranean

Italy Mena Rectors Summit

The “Italy-MENA Rectors’ Summit: Building a Mediterranean Educational Space” is the first international event of the Arab Mediterranean Campus (AMC) project that took place at the Luiss Guido Carli's “Aula Chiesa”. The AMC is funded by the Italian Ministry of Education (MUR) and supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI).

The event began with a closed-door session moderated by Project Director Prof. Raffaele Marchetti. Rectors and representatives from numerous MENA universities, alongside deputies and delegates from the 12 Italian universities forming part of the AMC consortium, participated in this session. The proceedings were opened with institutional greetings from Luiss's Deputy for Internationalisation, Prof. Antonio Majocchi.

The plenary session featured key contributions by Counselor Marcella Panucci, representing the Minister of University and Research Sen. Anna Maria Bernini; Director General Cecilia Piccioni, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Mohamed El-Shinawi, President of Galala University; Mohammed Saad Ambarek, President of Libyan International University; Agostino Inguscio, Director of the UNDPCentre in Rome.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the initiation of concrete academic cooperation in the Mediterranean region and the establishment of a network to promote educational initiatives based on the experience of the Arab Mediterranean Campus.

Many thanks to the Ambassadors and delegates from MENA countries and all AMC partners who participated in the initiative.
